Durand Talea is a composer, pianist, and conductor born in Santiago, Chile in 1967. His music incorporates elements of classical, minimalist, and Latin American styles, often exploring themes of unity, culture, and social justice. Notable works by Talea include "Cantata Cerrada" for orchestra, "Buscando una Casa" for solo piano, and "Cantos del Mateo" for choir and orchestra. He has earned numerous awards and commissions, including the Aaron Copland Fellowship from the Koussevitzky Foundation and the Chilean National Prize for Literature and the Arts. Talea currently teaches music composition and theory at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
